Degree objectives
The Master's Degree in Aquaculture Engineering and Management is a joint course offered by the Setúbal School of Technology and the School of Science and Technology at the University of Évora. It aims to respond to the current needs of the labour market and is aligned with the National Strategy for the Sea. It trains professionals in the areas of rational and sustainable aquaculture production, safeguarding the conservation of aquatic ecosystems and focusing on the processing and quality assurance of its products, from production to the end consumer.

Learning objectives and skills to be developed
Professionals with this training will be able to respond independently and with predictive capacity to situations requiring analysis, diagnosis and decision-making, with the ability to lead, plan, coordinate and manage companies, and implement research projects to improve cultivation processes, diversify the species produced and monitor the entire aquaculture production process. The training is geared towards the study of the production of aquatic animals and plants in freshwater, brackish and saltwater systems, always based on the sustainable development of the activity and the good management and conservation of natural ecosystems.

Career opportunities
Graduates of the Aquaculture Engineering and Management course may go on to work in: Aquaculture product production companies; Public and private research laboratories in aquatic and marine sciences, aquaculture and marine biology; Companies and institutions involved in river and ocean education; Institutions responsible for the governance and licensing of activities in aquatic systems; Companies processing aquaculture and marine products; Companies marketing and distributing aquaculture and marine products; Aquaculture design and consulting companies. They may be responsible for: i) the management and technical direction of facilities; ii) the licensing, coordination and management of projects; iii) production planning; iv) the planning and management of product quality and food safety; v) the monitoring and treatment of water and effluents; vi) the packaging and marketing of aquaculture products.

Admission requirements
The course is aimed at
a) Holders of a bachelor's degree or legal equivalent in Science or Technology/Engineering, preferably in the areas of: Environmental and Marine Technologies, Biology, Animal Science and Technology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences or other related areas; Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal Page 3/7
b) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree awarded following a 1st cycle of studies organised in accordance with the principles of the Bologna Process by a State adhering to this Process;
c) Holders of a foreign higher academic degree that is recognised as satisfying the objectives of a bachelor's degree at national level;
