Objectives
At the end of this Curricular Unit, students will be able to:
• Theoretically and pedagogically frame the interrelationship between arts, sciences and citizenship, enhancing their relevance in the
context of teacher training and children and young people;
• Know and critically analyze pedagogical and artistic proposals related to triangulation, arts, sciences and citizenship (in the school context
and outside of school);
• Develop technical and analytical skills that enhance the creation of creative and transformative training projects, promoting active
participation in the construction of a more sustainable, equitable and inclusive world;
• Develop practical, integrative activities that can be mobilized in in pedagogical practice in the 1st and 2nd cycles of elementary school -
Teaching Methods
Teaching and learning will occur by immersing students in today's artistic and scientific cultures so that they can incorporate the role of arts
and sciences in the context of a more inclusive and articulated education. The work methodology is developed in the articulation of activities
of a theoretical-practical nature in which the main issues underlying the articulation of arts, sciences and citizenship in the context of
STEAM are analyzed and debated. The process comprises information research, analysis, debate, group work, discussion and oral
presentations, related to the topics covered that enhance the development of intervention proposals with children and young people,
articulating Arts, Sciences and Citizenship- These UC-specific methodologies are articulated with the principles defined in the ESE/IPS
Pedagogical Model, especially in valuing transversal skills (critical spirit, collaborative work and use of technologies). -

Content Explanation
The UC's programmatic contents are intrinsically linked to the learning objectives. The understanding of the interrelationship between arts,
sciences and citizenship is based on the comprehensibility of the different types of roles that this interrelationship can play in teaching
modalities, in the knowledge and learning articulated inside and outside the classroom.
In this curricular unit, we seek, therefore, to articulate the convergences between different concepts relating to scientific and artistic
productions, namely between the more rational and intuitive dimensions that characterize the particularities of arts and sciences. Starting
from current socio-scientific issues and integrated artistic-scientific projects, within the scope of the STEAM approach, the aim is to develop
artistic, scientific and pedagogical activities that enhance the articulated development of knowledge and its communicability, promoting the
training of teachers as critical citizens. -
Methodology Explanation
Teaching strategies are formulated in order to promote the understanding of the themes stated and the acquisition of the proposed
objectives, through reading, analysis and discussion of reference texts and videos in order to contribute to a more in-depth, scientifically and
empirically supported knowledge and debate.
The sessions are focused on student involvement and participation, articulating experiential knowledge and activities of a theoretical and
theoretical-practical nature, holding seminars and other activities. It is intended that these learning situations appear as structuring elements
that promote the appropriation of a diverse set of concepts and critical reflection, enhancing the development of intervention and research
projects in accordance with contemporary contexts and problems. -
